Discrete-Point Control Based Adaptive Active Noise Regulation System Implementation Using Deep-Learning Regression Techniques
SIGNAL PROCESSING

The objective of the project is to apply deep learning techniques to optimize the performance of active noise control systems so as to provide a user adjustable control for acoustic noise ingress within a particular region (quiet zone) by estimating noise levels through discrete point measurements in and around the control region, and optimizing the location and spectral characteristics of anti-noise sources in order to achieve the best results.

Design and development of a metal-packaged FBG sensor for the monitoring of cracks in civil applications.

Investigators: Dr. Ambarish G. Mohapatra, Principal Investigator, Dept. of EIE, SiliconTech Bhubaneswar, Dr. Kamalakanta Satpathy, Co-Principal Investigator.

Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) are used as passive optical sensors in various purposes like Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), biomedical and chemical sensors, sensors in aerospace applications where EM radiation may create abnormalities during measurement. These FBG sensors are primarily sensitive to the effect of strain on the grating region. The proposed project work is based on the packaging of a FBG sensor element using suitable metal and polymer which can be used in civil engineering applications.

Design Approach:

  • Design of the FBG Sensors is completed and is tested in the laboratory condition which is giving promising results.
  • Further testing and design improvements are underway for industrial applications.
Studies on the convective heat transfer in Nanofluids
COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS

Investigator: Dr. Kamalakanta Satpathy

The Brownian motion of the nanoparticles in nanofluid is one of the potential contributors to enhance effective thermal conductivity. The mechanisms that might contribute to this enhancement are the subject of considerable discussion and debate. Towards this, the mixing as well as other hydrodynamics and thermal effects associated with the Brownian motion in the nanofluid will be numerically studied.

Numerical Approach:

  • CAD design of the numerical model has been completed.
  • The study of heat transfer analysis is under investigation.

Smart Eye software for Monitoring and Control of Plant Conditions

This method provides an accurate, and rapid tool to estimate leaf area from digital images. This tool’s ability to separate leaf pixels from various backgrounds also allows it to be used for leaf area and crop canopy measurement without masking soil or relying on infrared images to distinguish leaf area from background soil. This will significantly improve rapid screening of large plant collections.

The accuracy of this software was very high even with a commonly available camera phone, but care must be taken to avoid perspective and lens distortion.

The time required using traditional methods (flatbed scanner and Image analysis) is about 5 min for capturing an image and about 3 min for analyzing leaf area. Using a digital camera and this method required less than 5 s for capturing an image and less than 60 s for analyzing leaf area.
