The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the institute organized a workshop on ‘General and Electrical Safety Measures’ for all the staff members on 13 May 2023.

It is vital for everyone to follow safety practices at home and workplace to reduce the frequency of mishaps. The objective of this event was to create awareness about the importance of following general and electrical safety measures and share the best safety practices with the audience.

The workshop was conducted by Mr. Bikram Keshari Swain, Business Head and SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) advisor at Vision@WellBeing, a service-related firm based in Odisha. Mr. Swain is a certified lead auditor for ISO 45001 and has been authorized as a safety officer by the governments of Odisha and Goa. He is also a member of the National Safety Council and the Indian Society for Training and Development. The workshop began with an oath taken by the audience, pledging to learn safety measures and alert others to safety concerns.  Mr. Swain then delivered a talk in which he discussed the safety myths and shared the scientific approaches to dispel these myths. The talk was followed by a Q & A session in which the audience had to identify the situational risk factors. Moreover, he explained the difference between an incident, accident, and near-miss event, and elaborated on how non-reporting of near-miss events leads to future incidents and accidents.

The presentations were well-designed to facilitate an easy understanding of the safety measures. A total of sixty staff members of SiliconTech attended the workshop.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Nivedita Pati, Senior Assistant Professor, EEE & the event coordinator.
