Silicon Institute of Technology, Sambalpur (Silicon West) collaborated with L&T Sambalpur – Rourkela Tollway Limited to organize a painting competition in the institute on 5 June 2023 to create awareness on World Environment Day.
World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to raise awareness and encourage action for the protection of our planet. It was first established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, and since then, over 150 countries participate in various activities to celebrate this day.
Inspired by the UN theme for World Environment Day 2023, the painting competition was themed on #BeatPlasticPollution and ‘Ecosystem Restoration’. A total of 29 students participated in the competition and the top three painters were awarded with prizes. Shubham Barik (CSE, 2024) was the winner of the competition, Bhupinder Singh (CSE, 2025) received the second prize and Aditya Sharma (CSE, 2024) received the third prize.
The event was jointly coordinated by Dr. Mihir Hota, Dean (Academics), Silicon West and Mr. Manoj Kumar Pattnaik, Representative ofL & T Sambalpur – Rourkela Tollway Limited.
