SiliconTech signs MoU with Tata Power to advance training and recruitment initiatives for creating a skilled workforce in the power sector

SiliconTech signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Power for implementation of the ‘Train and Hire’ program on 14 July 2023. The objective of this collaboration is to provide hands-on training to make the students power industry-ready and create potential avenues of employment in the power sector.

Tata Power is the largest power generation company in India aimed at providing uninterrupted power supply from its various plants located across India. As part of the ‘Sparsh’ and ‘Train to Hire’ programs, Tata Power seeks to provide hands-on experience to young individuals, enabling them to develop the necessary skills for various job roles in the power sector.

Under this collaboration, SiliconTech students will work in teams with the experts from Tata Power for fulfilling the objectives outlined in this MoU. The students will get the opportunity to enhance their skills through knowledge sharing and technological exchange in various areas such as automation systems, regulations and standards, smart meter technology, energy auditing, and meter testing. The collaboration may also involve the co-development of products and solutions for the electricity distribution market, facilitated by joint workshops, hackathons, seminars, and other activities.

The MoU signing ceremony began with the welcome address delivered by Dr. Jaideep Talukdar, our Principal. Dr. Ramaprasad Panda, Professor, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, spoke about the objectives of the joint venture and elucidated the opportunities presented by this collaboration. Mr. Subir Verma, Cluster, Head of HR (T&D Cluster Companies), Tata Power addressed the gathering and said that a skilled workforce is a critical factor contributing to an industry’s growth, and the partnership will help nurture new talent with the required skill development courses and programs. He further said that Tata Power is delighted to join hands with the leading institutions of Odisha to share its best practices and experience in the field to nurture talent for the power distribution sector in India. Mr. Shyam Sundar Choudhury, Head, HR, Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) and Mr. Budhish Kumar Behera, Senior General Manager, TPCODL also spoke on this occasion. Dr. Saroj Kanta Misra, our Director explained how this MoU will benefit our students in his address.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sanjit Kumar Swain, Faculty-in-Charge, Industry Interface Cell (II Cell). Ms. Subhashree Ojha, Assistant Professor, Basic Sciences and Humanities compered the event proceedings.
