Silicon University celebrates World Environment Day 2024

The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, collaborated with the Silicon Green Club (SGC) to conduct a plantation drive within the college campus on 5 June 2024 to celebrate World Environment Day.

World Environment Day, held annually on 5 June, brings together millions of people from across the globe, engaging them in the effort to protect and restore the Earth’s environment. People from more than 150 countries participate in this United Nations International Day, which celebrates environmental action and the power of governments, businesses, and individuals to create a more sustainable world.

This year’s World Environment Day campaign focused on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration”. The campaign theme emphasizes that we must urgently protect our environment by prioritizing the restoration of land and combating desertification. Building resilience against drought is crucial due to the critical issue of clean water availability. Equally important is our commitment to preserving biodiversity and natural habitats while restoring degraded ecosystems. Through these efforts, we can ensure a sustainable future for our planet.

The students and staff of Silicon came together to plant saplings on World Environment Day. They prepared the soil and selected native plants for better growth. Each participant planted a sapling, ensuring proper spacing and care. They watered the new plants and added mulch to retain moisture. This successful drive helped to make our campus greener and contribute to a healthier environment.
