The students of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) chapter at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, visited the Bramhanand Gourav Gurukul, an orphanage located at Topavana in Bhubaneswar on 1 November 2024 to celebrate Deepavali, the festival of lights.
The initiative focused on providing companionship, care, and attention to children lacking family support, addressing their emotional, social, and physical needs. It aimed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by orphaned or abandoned children, emphasizing their need for both material and emotional support. A variety of activities, including educational workshops, sports, and arts, were organized to nurture the children’s overall development. The program also ensured the provision of essential supplies such as food, clothing, and books while hosting fundraisers to support the orphanage. By fostering mentorship and role modeling, the initiative conveyed to the children that they were valued and not forgotten, while also instilling a sense of social responsibility among participants.
The students organized a series of activities to support the children and fulfill the program’s objectives. They began by understanding the children’s daily routines, which emphasized discipline, well-being, and mindfulness. To promote mental fitness, the team introduced engaging games designed to enhance focus and teamwork, which the children enthusiastically participated in. This was followed by group singing and dancing, offering the children an opportunity to showcase their talents and creating a festive atmosphere. The visit culminated in a shared Diwali meal, fostering a deep sense of unity and joy between the children and the IEEE team.
The event effectively promoted the children’s development and well-being while fostering meaningful connections between them and the team. It underscored the profound impact of collaboration and empathy in transforming the lives of orphaned children, showcasing how collective efforts can create lasting positive change.
