The Industry Interface Cell (II Cell) at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized an industrial visit to Vedanta Ferro Alloys Corporation Limited (FACOR) at Bhadrak on 26 April 2025.
The visit aimed to enhance industry-academia collaboration by identifying real-time technical challenges faced by FACOR, paving the way for potential consultancy projects. It also offered faculty and students valuable exposure to practical problem-solving in a core industrial setting.
The delegation from Silicon was warmly welcomed by Mr. Kamod Singh, Chief Operating Officer of FACOR, who initiated the meeting with an overview of the company’s operations and ongoing technical challenges. He emphasized FACOR’s commitment to collaborating with academic institutions for mutual benefit. A joint technical discussion was then held between FACOR’s department heads and Silicon faculty coordinators. Out of twenty seven identified problem statements, ten were finalized as consultancy projects to be undertaken in the first phase, covering domains such as electrical systems, mechanical processes, energy optimization, and safety enhancements. A structured roadmap for project execution and review was established, along with discussions on offering internship opportunities for students at FACOR.
The session witnessed active participation from five faculty members of Silicon and eight industry professionals from FACOR. It concluded on a positive and collaborative note, with the university representatives extending their heartfelt appreciation to the FACOR leadership for their support, hospitality, and trust in fostering academic-industry partnerships. In response, the FACOR team commended the faculty’s proactive engagement and strong technical acumen. This exchange of mutual commitment lays a solid foundation for continued collaboration on real-world industrial challenges.
