SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized a two-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) from 16- 17 July 2025, titled ‘Teaching to Engage: Transitioning from Lectures to Participative Learning’.
The primary objective of the FDP was to equip faculty members with practical, learner-centric teaching strategies that go beyond traditional lecture methods. It aimed to help educators foster greater student engagement by adopting participative and interactive teaching approaches aligned with the needs of the 21st-century learners. This initiative is part of Silicon University’s broader commitment to enhancing teaching effectiveness and academic innovation.
The sessions were facilitated by Ms. Sraboni Sengupta, Director, Talent Development, Constellation Training & Placement Services Pvt. Ltd., and assisted by Mr. Rajan Kumar Majumdar, Managing Director, Constellation Training & Placement Services Pvt. Ltd. The sessions were designed to be experiential and participatory, incorporating techniques such as Think-Pair-Share, Case Method, Role Play, and Structured Debates. Participants also explored technology tools like Mentimeter, Padlet, and Jamboard to enhance interaction in both physical and digital classrooms. Faculty members had the opportunity to redesign their lessons, practice microteaching, and receive constructive peer feedback, ensuring immediate application of the new methods.
The program brought together forty faculty members from various departments, with twenty participants attending each day. The FDP concluded with faculty members expressing enthusiasm and commitment to implementing these strategies in their teaching practice. Positive feedback from participants highlighted the relevance, adaptability, and impact of the techniques shared. Overall, the FDP underscored Silicon University’s dedication to pedagogical excellence and its proactive approach to preparing educators for more engaging and effective teaching.
