The Industry Interface Cell (II Cell) at Silicon University organized an industrial visit to Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), Chandaka, on 6 June 2026 as part of the Summer Internship Program.
The visit was designed to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of modern power transmission systems and bridge the gap between classroom learning and industrial practices. During the visit, students toured a 220/132 kV grid substation, where they observed the operation of key electrical infrastructure used in power transmission. They gained firsthand knowledge of power transformers, switchgears, circuit breakers, protection systems, bus bars, and control room operations, enabling them to better understand the technical aspects of power transmission.
The industry experts at OPTCL explained the design and operation of grid substations, highlighting the processes involved in ensuring efficient and reliable power transmission. Students also learned about system monitoring, equipment maintenance, operational reliability, and the critical role of substations in maintaining a stable power supply.
The visit provided valuable practical insights into high-voltage power systems and reinforced the theoretical concepts studied in the classroom. It also familiarized students with industry-standard safety procedures and operational practices, enriching their understanding of the power sector and preparing them for future professional careers.
