The META Academics Cell of SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized an Anti-Ragging Awareness Debate on 13 August 2026.
The primary objectives of the event were to educate students about the nature, consequences, and prevention of ragging, promote a safe and respectful campus environment, encourage responsible conduct and awareness of individual responsibilities in preventing and reporting incidents of ragging, sensitize students to the physical, emotional, psychological, and academic impact of ragging, and promote mutual respect and healthy interaction among students across different years and backgrounds without intimidation or harassment.
The debate competition provided students with a platform to express their views on ragging and understand its physical, psychological, social, and academic consequences. A total of twelve students participated in the debate which was conducted in both Hindi and English languages. The program commenced with a welcome address by the organizing team, followed by an introduction to the purpose and significance of the anti-ragging awareness initiative. Participants were briefed on the importance of maintaining a ragging-free academic environment and were encouraged to share their perspectives on the issue. The debate was conducted with a three-minute time limit for each participant and was judged by Ms. Rupa Kanungo and Ms. Ipsita Pahi, faculty members at SiliconTech. Through their presentations and discussions, students highlighted the need for responsible behaviour, respectful communication, and collective efforts to prevent ragging and related misconduct on campus.
The event concluded with an emphasis on the shared responsibility of students, faculty members, and the institution in maintaining a safe and ragging-free campus. The program successfully strengthened awareness among students regarding the seriousness of ragging, the importance of reporting inappropriate behaviour, and the need to uphold dignity and mutual respect. Priyanshu Das (3rd year, EEE) branch secured the first position, while Archit Pati (2nd Year, CSE) secured the second position and Mama Bisoi (2nd Year, MCA) secured the third position. All the winners were awarded prizes.
