The Silicon Photography Club (SPC), in collaboration with the Ketaki Foundation Trust organized the 5th edition of ‘Obscura 2026’ to observe the World Photography Day on 19 August 2026.
The event aimed to provide a platform for professional photographers and young photography enthusiasts to interact, learn, and exchange perspectives. It also sought to encourage curiosity, creativity, keen observation, and visual expression among students while providing them with an opportunity to present their photographic work.
The program commenced with the inauguration, followed by an address by Dr. Jaideep Talukdar, our Vice-Chancellor. He encouraged young photographers to pursue photography with curiosity, creativity, and a keen sense of observation. The invited guests, Dr. Samrat Gowda, IFS, Wildlife Photographer & Nemophilist, and Ms. Sourabha T. Gowda, Wildlife Photographer & Visual Artist, were subsequently introduced to the gathering. They shared their experiences, insights, and perspectives on photography, particularly drawing from their work in wildlife photography and visual art.
The program further featured presentations by students of the Silicon Photography Club, with a total of ten student presenters showcasing and discussing their photographic work. In addition, photographs submitted by several students were displayed on boards as part of the student photography showcase. The sessions encouraged interaction and exchange among students, photographers, and faculty members, creating an engaging platform for learning and creative expression. Certificates were awarded to all the presenters, while tokens of gratitude and mementoes were presented to the invited guests and the Vice-Chancellor in recognition of their participation and support.
The formal proceedings concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Anurag Mohanty, Secretary, Silicon Photography Club, who acknowledged the contributions of the guests, presenters, participants, and everyone involved in organizing the event. The program provided students with valuable exposure to professional perspectives in photography while encouraging them to explore creativity and observation through the photographic medium.
