The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in partnership with Silicon Institute of Technology (SiliconTech), celebrated ‘Kala Kumbh’, an artists’ workshop from 11 – 16 December, under the banner of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ is an initiative of Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of India’s independence through various events and cultural renditions. It is to pay a tribute to all those people who have been instrumental in the evolutionary journey of our nation-building. Kala Kumbh is an event under the same banner to promulgate the tradition of the various art forms of our nation.
In this event of Kala Kumbh, NGMA has taken up an ambitious project to paint ten canvas scrolls of 75 metres each depicting several aspects of India’s Independence, to be compiled and displayed during the 26 January 2022 celebrations at New Delhi.
SiliconTech has been the host to one of the canvas scrolls which depicts the unsung heroes of Odisha who played an integral part in the fight for independence. A team of 70 professional artists from different parts of Odisha painted the canvas, which features images of various freedom fighters from Odisha. There were a few other subsidiary scrolls also that displayed ‘Gond’ art.
