The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SiliconTech organized a two-week ATAL (AICTE Training and Learning Academy) FDP (Faculty Development Program) on ‘IoT and Agriculture for Environment’ in the hybrid mode, from 26 December 2022 – 6 January 2023.
The objective of this FDP was to discuss the different aspects of precision in agriculture and the role of IoT (Internet of Things) in it. IoT solutions help farmers close the supply-demand gap by ensuring high yields, profitability and protection of the environment. The approach towards using IoT technology to ensure optimum application of resources to achieve high crop yields and reduce operational costs is called precision agriculture.
The FDP also focussed on developing IoT-based water and air quality monitoring systems. Environmental pollution monitoring of air and water plays a significant role in controlling pollution.
The first week was conducted in the virtual mode and the second week was conducted in the offline mode. A total of fourteen sessions were conducted. The expert panel consisted of several esteemed professors including Prof. Suraj Sharma from Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya Central University, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Prof. Ashish Khanna from MAIT (Manufacturers’ Association of Information Technology), New Delhi, Prof. Suvendu Rup from NIT, Raipur, Prof. Abhishek Swaroop from Bhagwan Parshuram Institute of Technology, Delhi, Prof. Tanmay Panda from North York, Ontario, Canada, Mr. Mukesh Singh from Robogenesis, Bhubaneswar, Prof. Siba Kumar Udgata, University of Hyderabad, Telangana and Prof. Siba Prasad Adhikary, Former Vice Chancellor, Fakir Mohan University, Balasore.
The experts spoke on diverse topics like ‘IoT & Its Applications in Agriculture’, ‘IOT in Agriculture: Challenges & Opportunities’, ‘Role of Educators in the age of Technology’, ‘AquaSens: An intelligent and adaptive sensor-based approach for water and environment quality monitoring’, ‘Everything you wanted to know about Smart Agriculture’, and ‘National Education Policy’. Mr. Mukesh Singh from Robogenesis conducted three hands-on sessions on ‘Installation and Environmental setup’, ‘Soil Monitoring’, and ‘Irrigation’.
SiliconTech faculty members also contributed to the FDP. Dr. Jaideep Talukdar, our Principal discussed about ‘The Scientific Method & Problem Solving’, Dr. Saswati Jena, Counselling Psychologist at SiliconTech enlightened on ‘Positive Attitude for Stress Management’ and Dr. Ambarish Gajendra Mohapatra, Associate Professor, EIE spoke on ‘Technologies in Precision Agriculture and IoT-Enabled Practices’.
A total of forty eight participants attended the FDP. All the sessions were well-received and appreciated by the participants.
