Department of ECE organizes a 3-day workshop on ‘Nanotechnology and Embedded Systems’ (NES 2022)

The Department of ECE (Electronics & Communication Engineering) at SiliconTech collaborated with the industry partner Sevya Multimedia to organize a three-day workshop on ‘Nanotechnology and Embedded Systems (NES-2022)’, in hybrid mode from 16 – 18 December 2022.

The objective of NES-2022 was to create awareness about the recent advances in solid-state devices, VLSI circuits and embedded systems. The workshop comprised expert talks by eminent speakers from leading semiconductor companies and prestigious universities. Hands-on training sessions were also organized for the participants to help them enhance their skills in VLSI design.

The chief guest of the event, Mr. Mrinal Das, Founder e-COE (Electronics Center of Excellence) inaugurated the workshop on 16 December 2022. Dr. Chandra Shekhar from BITS, Pilani, spoke about the ‘Evolution of Microprocessor in 50 years’ and Dr. Vishal Sipani from Micron Technology highlighted the different challenges in modern memory design in his talk, on the first day of the workshop.

Dr. Siddhartha Dhar, from STMicroelectronics, France explained about the ‘CMOS Scaling and FDSOI Technology’ and Mr. Puneet Mittal, Founder & CEO, VLSI Expert Pvt. Ltd., spoke on ‘Tips & Tactics for Thriving in your Initial Years of VLSI careers’, on the second day of the workshop.

The third day started with a tutorial on ‘OpenROAD based VLSI Design Flow’ by Ms. Indira Iyer and Mr. Vijayan K. from Precision Innovations, USA Chipware Technologies. Thereafter, Mr. Alok Kumar Mishra, from Micron Technology spoke on ‘The Rise of Digital Complexity in DRAMs’. Mr. Atul Bhargava from STMicroelectronics delivered a talk on ‘The Journey of devices from Design to Silicon’ and Mr. Kunal Ghosh, Director and Co-Founder, VLSI System Design (VSD) delivered a talk on ‘Next-gen VLSI Ed-Tech’. The event concluded with an Open House session and interaction with Mr. Kunal Ghosh.

A total of 779 participants including students, faculty members and industry professionals from India and abroad participated in the workshop. Some of the participants were from well-renowned institutes such as IIT Bombay, IIIT Pune, IIEST, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Delhi, IIIT Allahabad, IIT Dharwad, IIT Indore, IIT Mandi, BITS Pilani, CIT Kokrajhar,  Tejpur University, NIT Jamshedpur, NIT Calicut, College of Engineering, Pune.

There were also participants from reputed companies like Intel, Samsung Semiconductors Cadence Design Systems, TCS, VLSI Expert, Sevya Multimedia, Synopsis, Elfonze Technologies Pvt. Ltd and Micron Technology.

There were 4 international registrations from the State University of Buffalo New York, TU Chemnitz, the University of Cambridge and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.

All the participants benefitted immensely from this workshop. The students got a direct exposure to the VLSI industry and got an opportunity to hear about the latest developments in this industry from the experts.
