Department of EEE organizes a workshop on ‘Electrical and Electronic Devices’

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized its annual event, the Electrical and Electronics Devices (EED) workshop for the current academic session on 19 April 2025.

The objective of the event was to provide students with hands-on experience in working with various electrical and electronic devices. It aimed to encourage skill development by effectively bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. The event also served as a platform for meaningful information exchange, allowing participants to share insights, learn collaboratively, and enhance their understanding through real-time exploration and interaction.

This year’s workshop showcased around 24 gadgets, each accompanied by a detailed description of its working mechanisms and real-world applications. The event was divided into three main segments- the device display, a technical quiz, and the felicitation of winners.

The jury panel comprising Mr. Manoj Kumar Nayak, Assistant General Manager at Gram Tarang Employability Training Services, Dr. Sudhansu Kumar Samal, Associate Professor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Centurion University, and Prof. Suryanarayan Sahu, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Centurion University evaluated the participants based on their depth of understanding and presentation skills.

A major highlight of this year’s workshop was the special display of a smart 5kVA transformer, featuring both low and high voltage windings along with the transformer core. The exhibit drew significant attention from second-year EEE students, faculty members, and students from other departments, all of whom engaged enthusiastically with the display and interacted with the presenters.

Prizes were awarded to three groups based on the jury’s evaluation, with the winning projects being the Home Mixer Grinder, Refrigerator, and Induction Heater. In the technical quiz segment, two out of four participating groups emerged as winners. All winners received certificates and cash prizes in recognition of their performance.

The event, organized by the EEE Department, was a successful initiative that promoted hands-on learning and active student engagement. Coordinated by Dr. Nivedita Pati, Senior Assistant Professor in the EEE Department, the workshop was made possible through the collective efforts and support of the department’s faculty and staff, contributing to a dynamic and enriching learning experience.
