Department of EEE organizes a workshop on ‘Electrical and Electronic Devices’

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized its annual event, the Electrical and Electronics Devices (EED) workshop for the current academic session on 14 February 2026.

The primary objective of the workshop was to encourage experiential learning by enabling students to design, fabricate, and demonstrate electrical and electronic devices based on concepts from their curriculum. The event aimed to promote practical application of theoretical knowledge, foster innovation and creativity, develop teamwork, presentation, and problem-solving skills, and provide a platform for students to showcase their technical projects.

The event was conducted in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering laboratories, beginning with an inauguration where faculty members emphasized the importance of hands-on learning and innovation in engineering education. Faculty members and invited juries visited the exhibition area, interacted with student teams, and explored their technical projects.

During the workshop, 6th semester students formed groups to develop various devices and presented their projects to faculty and juries, explaining the design concept, circuit implementation, components used, and potential applications. Students answered questions, received feedback for improvement, and participated in a quiz session designed for 4th semester students to encourage engagement and learning. Mr. Mrutyunjay Biswal, Deputy General Manager at the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation (OPTCL), joined as the resource person and provided valuable insights on practical applications of the devices.

The winners of the quiz conducted for 4th semester students were Swati Swarup Panda, Rahul Kumar Nayak, and Manish Kumar Sandha, while the runners-up were Piyush Das, Karishma Das, and Matruashish Patra. In the device competition conducted for the 6th semester students, the winning team included Srestha Ram, Dibyajyoti Prakash Mishra, Shaikh Saqib, Debasish Bisoi, Shubham Suvendu Nayak, and Vikash Kumar Jha. The first runners-up team comprised Ashis Dhir, Dinesh Kumar Mishra, Pratyush Kumar Harichandan, B Malavika, Sabyasachi Pradhan, and Sampad Prasad Nayak, while the second runners-up team included Kaushik Bihari, Rashika Das, Subhasmita Sahoo, Ashutosh Sahoo, Maneesa Pahan, and Prachi Pratikshya Lenka.

The workshop successfully achieved its objectives by promoting innovation, collaboration, and practical learning among students. Such events play a vital role in preparing future engineers to tackle real-world challenges with creativity and confidence.
