Department of EEE organizes an industrial visit to the Skill Development Institute (SDI)

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized a one-day industrial visit to the Skill Development Institute (SDI) located at Jatni, Bhubaneswar on 1 February 2025.

The objective of the visit was to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical exploration, offering students insights into the automation industry’s processes and technologies. It aimed to enhance skill-based learning and provide exposure to real-time applications. The visit also focused on exploring career opportunities and skill-oriented training programs for EEE students.

The visit to SDI began with a comprehensive tour of the campus, showcasing its state-of-the-art facilities and emphasizing the importance of industry-specific courses for the EEE stream. Students gained valuable insights into the relevance of these courses in the workforce, followed by an in-depth session on Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and SCADA systems, which included a hands-on demonstration. The tour continued with a visit to advanced laboratories and workshops, including those developed in collaboration with Schneider Electric. Highlights included the Solar Energy Lab, featuring a fully functional wind turbine setup with battery storage, solar hybrid energy systems, and water pumping mechanisms. The Home Automation Lab was equipped with fire alarms, security systems, and protection devices, while the Industrial Automation Lab housed cutting-edge PLC and SCADA modules. Students also explored Industry 4.0 and Robotics Labs, gaining exposure to the latest automation technologies. These visits provided them with a deeper understanding of emerging industry trends.

Throughout the visit, students gained hands-on exposure to the operation of various equipment and developed an understanding of the essential skills required to meet industry demands, enhancing their employability. Mr. Anil Jena, the trainer, also highlighted the placement assistance provided by SDI in the industrial sector, offering valuable career insights.

Dr. Nivedita Pati, Senior Assistant Professor, EEE Department coordinated the event. A total of eighty three students, faculty, and staff members participated in this insightful industry interaction. The visit provided significant learning opportunities by bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications.
