Dr. Ashutosh Rath, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Silicon West, along with his team, was honoured by the Institution of Engineers (IEI), Bhubaneswar, with the prestigious Institution Award during the 64th Annual Technical Session held on 11 May 2025.
The IEI Institution Award is awarded for the best paper published in the Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Inter-disciplinary Panels parts of the Institution’s Journal in the fields of Marine Structures, Ship-building, and such other topics related to Marine Engineering.
Dr. Rath was awarded for his technical paper titled ‘Application of Soft Computing Techniques for Irrigation Water Management to Get Maximum Profit from Cultivation: A Case Study of a Part of the Command Area of Hirakud System, Odisha, India’. His research explores innovative approaches to optimize irrigation water use through soft computing methods, aiming to boost agricultural productivity and profitability in Odisha’s Hirakud command area.
The annual technical session featured keynote addresses and discussions emphasizing the vital role of engineering research in addressing real-world challenges. The award ceremony was graced by several distinguished guests, including His Excellency Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Hon’ble Governor of Odisha as the Chief Guest, Shri Krushna Chandra Patra, Minister of Science and Technology and Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare, Government of Odisha, Mr. V. B. Singh, President of The Institution of Engineers (India), and Prof. Dr. Sudhansu Sekhar Dash, Chairman of Odisha State Centre, IEI. Their presence highlighted the importance of academic excellence and technological innovation in advancing sustainable development.
