The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (ED Cell) at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized an expert talk on ‘IPR Basics for Innovators & Entrepreneurs’ on 26 February 2026.
The primary objectives of the expert talk were to introduce participants to the fundamentals and significance of IPR, highlight the importance of protecting innovations from copying, explain how intellectual property can generate revenue through licensing and commercialization, and demonstrate how IPR can provide a competitive advantage for start-ups. The session aimed to encourage innovation among students and aspiring entrepreneurs while increasing awareness about career opportunities and industry expectations in the field of intellectual property and technology commercialization.
The event was conducted in offline mode in alignment with the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) directives to raise awareness among students and faculty about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
The session was delivered by Dr. Amaresh Panda, Lead at KIIT-Technology Business Incubator (TBI), Technology Transfer Office (TTO), who has over 15 years of experience in intellectual property, portfolio management, and technology transfer. Dr. Panda explained the different forms of IPR, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and industrial designs. He elaborated on how innovators and entrepreneurs can leverage these mechanisms to safeguard their ideas and technological developments. The session also provided practical insights into systematically addressing real-world challenges while protecting intellectual assets.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from eighty-five students and faculty members, reflecting strong academic interest in innovation and intellectual property. It enhanced participants’ understanding of IPR and its importance in fostering innovation-driven entrepreneurship. The session motivated students to protect and commercialize their intellectual creations and inspired them to pursue opportunities in technology development and innovation, contributing to a culture of entrepreneurial thinking within the university.
