The Departments of Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering, in association with the Industry Interface Cell (II Cell), organized a lecture on the ‘Challenges of Power Transmission and Distribution’ on 21 March 2019.
Shiv Karmakar, Deputy Manager, Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), Sambalpur, delivered the lecture. He spoke about the challenges like distribution system loss reduction, earthing systems, smart grids, energy demand management like load peak, distributed energy storage, new customer demands, etc.
An optimized distribution system would need a high level of circuit redundancy, automation, reserve generation (margin), and load discipline. He focused on the district of Sambalpur.
Students from the sixth and eighth semesters of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering attended the lecture.
