National Institutional Ranking Framework is a ranking methodology released annually by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to rank institutions of higher education in India. The framework was approved by the former Ministry of Human Resource Development and launched by the Minister on 29 September 2015.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework has published the NIRF ranking for 2025. The NIRF 2025 rankings have been released for 17 categories, with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) being the newly introduced category. Under the NIRF, institutions are judged based on five broad parameters, which include Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception (PR). The final rankings are conferred depending on the total marks obtained in each of the five broad parameters.
