Optical Research team does the performance analysis of metal packaged FBG temperature sensor probe

The Optical Research team at SiliconTech had designed and fabricated the metal-packaged FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) temperature sensor probe at the laboratory in November 2021, by embedding an FBG sensor inside a nano-composite PolydimethylSiloxane (PDMS) polymer surrounded by a stainless-steel metal probe.

Now, this team has developed a temperature sensor calibration set-up at the laboratory facility, by using a standard metal rod-type thermistor probe, heating element, and an FBG sensor (1535nm) probe.

The data acquisition was performed using the National Instruments LabVIEW application developed by the Optical Sensor group. The experimental setup was used to evaluate the static characteristic parameters of the metal-packaged FBG temperature sensor, such as sensitivity, accuracy, hysteresis, non-linearity, etc.

The sensor can support a temperature measurement range of 30°C− 80°C. The dynamic characteristics will be examined, and a corresponding error compensation technique using an adaptive algorithm will be developed in due course.
