Silicon University collaborates with HINDALCO to solve industrial bottlenecks

SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized an industrial visit to the Hindustan Aluminium Corporation Limited (HINDALCO) Hirakud Plant, Sambalpur from 20 to 21 May 2024 to explore avenues of collaboration.

Silicon has taken a significant stride in fostering collaboration with HINDALCO through an enriching engagement with the HINDALCO Hirakud Plant. HINDALCO, the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, is a prominent leader in aluminium and copper production. Located in the picturesque Sambalpur district of Odisha, the Hirakud Plant is home to one of India’s oldest aluminium smelters and boasts some of the country’s most advanced rolling mills.

The objective of the collaboration was to focus on three key areas- Electrical Power System, Rodding Plant, and Compressed Air System. Within these domains, 33 problem statements were identified, and 14 were selected for further attention.

After further discussions, Silicon secured a funded project from HINDALCO titled ‘Study & Establish a Process for Feeder Change Over at RS#3 to RS#2, 11 KV System & Vice Versa’ within the Electrical Power System area. This purchase order marks a major milestone in our collaboration, demonstrating our ability to deliver practical and impactful solutions.

Silicon is excited to share the success of this venture, which underscores our commitment to providing students and faculty with real-world insights and fostering meaningful industry collaborations. We look forward to further nurturing this partnership for mutual growth and innovation.
