SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, strengthened its industrial partnership with Hindustan Aluminium Corporation Limited (HINDALCO) by embarking on a significant consultancy project titled ‘Analysis and Vetting of LA Report along with recommending an Alternative Cost-Effective Solution for Lightning, Earthing, and Surge Protection Measures at the Hirakud Smelter’. As part of this project, a team of senior sfaculty members from Silicon visited the HINDALCO plant on 18 February 2025 to engage in detailed discussions and collect essential data.
The visit provided invaluable insights into the plant’s operational dynamics, allowing for a thorough understanding of the existing systems and identifying opportunities for improvement. This collaboration follows the successful completion of the ‘Feeder Changeover Process’ project, further demonstrating Silicon’s expertise in tackling complex industry challenges and delivering impactful, real-world solutions.
This collaboration marks a crucial step forward in enhancing the safety and efficiency of the smelter’s electrical infrastructure. The project aims to critically assess the current protection systems and propose more cost-effective, yet highly reliable, solutions for lightning, earthing, and surge protection, ensuring optimal safety while reducing operational costs.
Silicon continues to prioritize the development of strong academia-industry partnerships, ensuring meaningful contributions to industrial progress while offering students and faculty valuable hands-on experience. This commitment enables the university to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, enriching both academic learning and industry innovation.
