Silicon University hosts its second Convocation

Silicon University hosted its 2nd Convocation on 2 August 2025 to confer degrees upon the graduating batch.

The 2nd Convocation Ceremony was graced by the Hon’ble Governor of Odisha and Visitor to the University, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, who formally declared the convocation open. The Chief Guest, Dr. Anand Deshpande, Founder and Managing Director of Persistent Systems, delivered an inspiring address to the graduates. In his speech, he reflected on the evolving employment landscape and highlighted the key areas graduates should focus on to excel in their professional journeys. Professor Peter Constantine, Director of the Literary Translation Program at the University of Connecticut, graced the occasion as the Guest of Eminence, lending distinction to the ceremony with his presence. The University’s Chairman, Mr. Joe Madiath, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Jaideep Talukdar, and Registrar, Prof. Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, also played pivotal roles in the proceedings, contributing to the solemnity and significance of the event.

The ceremony adhered to the rich convocation traditions, commencing with the Grace Passing and a ceremonial procession to the Convocation Hall, led by the Registrar. Degrees were conferred upon all eligible graduates. Continuing the legacy of its inaugural convocation in December 2024, this year’s event stood as a grand celebration of academic excellence, perseverance, and accomplishment.

A total of 672 students were awarded degrees, with 360 receiving them in person and 312 in absentia. The presence of 280 proud parents added a deeply personal and emotional dimension to the occasion, embodying the collective joy and pride of the entire academic community. Notably, Gopinath Barat of the B.Tech. CSE batch was conferred the prestigious S. Sundararajan Best Graduate Award, while Apurba Nayak from M.Sc. Molecular Medicine received the J.B.S. Haldane Best Student Award. In addition, three gold medals and twelve merit certificates were presented, along with special recognition for twenty-seven students who achieved the highest CGPAs.

The success of the convocation was the result of the collective efforts of all stakeholders, including the Board of Governors, Board of Management, Academic Council, and the dedicated organizing committee. The Registrar expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty, staff, students, and organizing teams for their invaluable contributions in making the event a memorable one. Marked by tradition, dignity, and celebration, the 2nd Convocation of Silicon University stands as a proud milestone in the institution’s academic journey.
