Silicon University in collaboration with Ketaki Foundation Trust organizes ‘Obscura 2024’ to celebrate World Photography Day

SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, in collaboration with Ketaki Foundation Trust, Bhubaneswar organized ‘Obscura 2024’, a presentation and discussion on photography to celebrate World Photography Day on 19 August 2024.

World Photography Day, celebrated on 19 August every year, honours the art of capturing moments and telling stories. It recognizes photography’s impact on culture and society, offering diverse perspectives. The objective of the event was to encourage and celebrate the art of photography, providing a platform for photographers and artists to connect, share ideas, and collaborate. It sought to foster a sense of community among participants, highlighting the importance of creative exchange and mutual support within the photography and arts community.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Sri Kapilas Bhuyan, a senior journalist, popular filmmaker, and trustee of the Ketaki Foundation Trust, Bhubaneswar. Dr. Jaideep Talukdar, Vice-Chancellor of Silicon University and Chief Guest of the event delivered an engaging talk covering various aspects of photography. Eminent filmmaker and writer Shri Sanjoy Patnaik, the Chief Speaker for Obscura 2024, shared his insights into the world of moving pictures and explored the impact of politics on cinema. Following this, well-known photographer Shri Ashis Dhir led a presentation and discussion on tribal photography, enriching the audience’s understanding of the subject.

The event concluded with student photographers showcasing their work, and distinguished guests were honoured with mementos from the Ketaki Foundation Trust. The final segment featured a round of discussions on photography, with closing remarks delivered by Dr. Annapurna Mishra, Faculty Coordinator of the Silicon Photography Club.
