Silicon University organizes a Social Outreach Activity

As part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) student chapter and the Eco Social Club at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized a special Diwali Bhandara at Jivan Jyoti Ashram in Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar on 21 October 2025.

The initiative aimed to spread joy, love, and compassion to the children and elderly residents of the ashram, who may be lacking familial support. The objective was to create a meaningful Diwali celebration, fostering empathy, promoting social responsibility, and engaging in community service. The event sought to bridge the emotional and social gaps by providing companionship, care, and interaction with the residents. Through activities that promoted mental, emotional, and creative development, the program allowed both students and residents to bond, share experiences, and enrich each other’s lives.

The day began with interactions between the volunteers, children, and elderly residents, where they learned about each other’s daily routines, life stories, and experiences. This exchange fostered mutual respect and understanding, allowing both groups to appreciate the values of discipline, gratitude, and simplicity in everyday life. The student members of IEEE and Eco Social Club then organized various fun and engaging activities, including games that encouraged teamwork and mental alertness. These activities were designed to spark joy and provide a sense of playfulness, bridging the gap between generations and creating a lively, festive atmosphere.

The highlight of the celebration was the cultural session, where the children showcased their singing and dancing talents. This not only added to the festive mood but also allowed the elderly residents to enjoy the creative expressions of the younger generation. The event culminated in a shared Diwali meal (Bhandara), where the residents, children, and volunteers dined together in unity. This communal meal symbolized the spirit of Diwali—celebrating light over darkness, and love and togetherness over isolation. The event left an enduring impact on all participants, reinforcing the importance of community, empathy, and the true essence of the festive season.
