The Department of Electronics Engineering (EE) at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, collaborated with AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy Cell, New Delhi to organize a Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘AI/ML Solutions for Industry 4.0: Applications Spanning from Embedded Systems to VLSI Technology’ from 19-24 August 2024.
The objective of the FDP was to equip faculty members with advanced knowledge and practical expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The program aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of AI/ML applications in Industry 4.0, with a specific focus on embedded systems and VLSI technology. By gaining this knowledge, participants would be better equipped to integrate these advanced technologies into their teaching, research, and industry collaboration efforts.
The FDP was inaugurated by esteemed Chief Guests, Mr. Mrinal Das, Head of Silicon Lifestyle Management (SLM) Design Hardware Group R&D at Synopsys Inc., and Dr. Jaideep Talukdar, Vice-Chancellor, Silicon University. Their presence set the tone for an insightful program. The event was further elevated by the participation of distinguished industry speakers and academicians, making it a truly collaborative and enriching experience.
The FDP showcased an impressive line-up of invited speakers, each contributing valuable expertise to the program. Among the distinguished speakers were Dr. Priya Ranjan Muduli, Assistant Professor at IIT BHU, Dr. Pradyut Biswal, Assistant Professor at IIIT, Bhubaneswar, Dr. Suman Samui, Assistant Professor at NIT Durgapur, Dr. Alok Satapathy, Professor at NIT Rourkela, Dr. Debi Prasad Das, Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar, Dr. Nijwm Wary, Assistant Professor at IIT Bhubaneswar, Mr. Rashmiranjan Mohapatra, Group Director EDAG and Site Head at Synopsys Inc. Bhubaneswar, Dr. Saroj Rout, Professor at Silicon University, Bhubaneswar, Dr. Deepak Nayak, Assistant Professor at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, and Dr. Kunal Pal, Professor at NIT Rourkela. This diverse group of experts enriched the program by sharing their knowledge and insights, significantly enhancing the learning experience for all participants.
The program provided an engaging exploration of cutting-edge topics, such as Edge AI, Tiny ML, Neuromorphic Chips, and Keyword Spotting. Participants also engaged in insightful discussions on the latest advancements in applications including mineral processing, food safety, medical image processing, and embedded IoT devices. The FDP also featured a special session on stress management, offering valuable strategies for enhancing physical and mental well-being. This session added a holistic dimension to the overall experience of the event.
A total of fifty five faculty members from across the country participated in the FDP, which was highly praised for its in-depth and relevant content. Participants particularly appreciated the focus on emerging fields such as Edge AI and Tiny ML, which seamlessly connected theoretical knowledge with practical applications. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Biranchi Narayan Rath, the FDP Coordinator, who acknowledged the efforts and contributions of everyone involved in the planning and execution of the program.
