The SAGE-W team at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized an awareness session on ‘Gender Equality in the Era of Globalization’ on 4 December 2024.
The objective of the session was to examine the impact of globalization on gender roles and to discuss the challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality in today’s interconnected world. The session aimed to raise awareness about the need for inclusive policies and equal opportunities for all genders while highlighting the importance of societal and cultural shifts to break traditional barriers. By fostering dialogue on how globalization influences gender dynamics, the session sought to inspire action towards creating a more equitable and just world for both women and men.
The speaker of the event was Ms. Kanta Mohanty, a renowned training consultant, career transition coach, and social activist. The session aimed to explore the dynamic relationship between gender equality and globalization, highlighting the challenges and opportunities in an interconnected world. She began by emphasizing the importance of gender equality as a cornerstone for sustainable development. She further discussed how globalization has transformed traditional gender roles, offering opportunities for access to education, employment, and rights, while also reinforcing systemic inequalities in certain regions. Through compelling case studies and real-life examples, she illustrated the progress made and the setbacks faced in the fight for gender equality.
The session was highly interactive, encouraging students to share their perspectives and experiences on gender dynamics. Thought-provoking questions about stereotypes, workplace inequality, and societal expectations led to meaningful discussions that fostered deep reflection. Ms. Mohanty skillfully addressed these concerns, offering practical advice and emphasizing the importance of collective action in challenging and dismantling these entrenched barriers. In the concluding remarks, she urged the audience to promote gender equality in their personal lives and within their communities, stressing the crucial roles of education, awareness, and empathy in driving lasting societal change.
A total of one hundred and twenty students, staff, and faculty members attended the session to create an engaging platform for promoting inclusivity. The session broadened their understanding of gender equality in the context of globalization, motivating them to become agents of change.
