Silicon University organizes an industrial visit to Vedanta FACOR’s Ostapal Chromite Mines

SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized an industrial visit to Vedanta FACOR’s Ostapal Chromite Mines on 27 October 2025, to strengthen the academic-industrial collaboration between the two institutions.

The primary objective of the visit was to conduct on-site data collection and harmonics measurement as part of the consultancy project titled ‘Power System Study & Relay Coordination’ at Vedanta FACOR. Additionally, the visit focused on reviewing the project’s scope, including discussions on the Power System Study, Relay Coordination, and Arc Flash Study. The event aimed to align both teams on future deliverables and deepen collaboration between Silicon and Vedanta FACOR.

The visit was part of the ongoing efforts of SiliconTech’sIndustry Interface Cell (II Cell) to engage students and faculty members in real-world industrial projects and enhance industry partnerships. It began with a reception from the Vedanta FACOR technical team, followed by an introductory session on site safety and the day’s objectives. The SiliconTech team then carried out data collection and harmonics measurement at various key electrical installations across the mine site. Technical discussions were also held with Vedanta FACOR officials, focusing on electrical systems, transformers, and protection schemes in place at the site.

The visit concluded with a review meeting where both teams discussed the progress of the project and the next steps, particularly regarding the Arc Flash Study. Dr. Arnab Pal, Assistant Professor (EEE) and Faculty Coordinator of the II Cell, expressed his gratitude to Vedanta FACOR for their support and cooperation, reinforcing the commitment to continued collaboration between the two organizations.
