Silicon University organizes an industry visit to HINDALCO for Electrical Network Clarification and Data Collection

The Industry Interface Cell (II Cell) at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized an industry visit to Hindustan Aluminium Corporation (HINDALCO), Hirakud, for Electrical Network Clarification and Data Collection on 17 and 18 December 2025.

The primary objective of the visit was to obtain detailed information and clarification regarding the plant’s electrical network. Faculty members aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the overall architecture and configuration of the Captive Power Plant’s (CPP’s) electrical systems. This included collecting data on the specifications of lines and conductors, transformer ratings, generator details, motor operating parameters (voltage, current, speed), and the configuration of the battery bank system. By gathering this information, the participants aimed to enhance their understanding of real-world electrical systems in industrial settings.

The visit strengthened the connection between academic learning and industrial practice in the field of electrical engineering. It provided faculty members from Silicon with the opportunity to explore the electrical network and systems at HINDALCO’s Hirakud CPP, offering valuable hands-on experience. Throughout the visit, the Silicon team engaged in detailed walkthroughs of various key plant components, such as generators, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, and the battery bank. The HINDALCO team provided expert insights into the specifications and operation of these systems. Data collection focused on verifying key parameters, such as load distribution, transformer and generator specifications, as well as motor ratings, ensuring that the faculty members could directly relate theoretical knowledge to practical applications.

The visit was made by Prof. Gyana Ranjan Biswal and Dr. Rajan Kumar Mishra from the EEE Department at SiliconTech, along with the Electrical and CPP Operations Team from HINDALCO. The discussions and observations made during the visit provided critical insights to the faculty members that will benefit their teaching and research in the future.
