Silicon University organizes an internal hackathon to select teams for the Smart India Hackathon 2024

The Silicon Innovation and Promotion Cell (SIPC) organized an internal hackathon to select teams for the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 on 21 August 2024.

Smart India Hackathon is an initiative of the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell that invites students to develop innovative solutions for real-world problems from different sectors, such as clean and green technology, smart automation, health tech, and ministries like the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and Ministry of Power. It fosters collaboration, creativity, and skill development while promoting a culture of entrepreneurship and technological advancement. Students engage in problem-solving through coding, application development, and building hardware prototype models as they tackle real-world challenges. SIH consists of two rounds. The first round is conducted at the institute level, and the final round is conducted at the national level.

A total of 50 teams from Silicon, consisting of 280 students from various branches, participated in the internal hackathon, presenting their ideas across both software and hardware categories. The teams addressed diverse problems to propose creative solutions aligned with the goals of the Smart India Hackathon.

Out of the 50 participating teams, 40 teams were selected to participate in the national-level competition, including 35 teams from the software category and 5 from the hardware category. The selection process was highly competitive, with the evaluators finding it challenging to choose from such a talented pool of participants.

The evaluation process was conducted by a panel of distinguished judges, both from industry and academia, to ensure a thorough assessment of the projects. The external jury members included Mr. Arindam Choudhury, Product Manager, Infosys, Mr. Bhawani Pattnaik, Associate Director, VVDN Technology, and Mr. Malay Kumar Padhi, Technology Architect, Infosys. The internal jury members from Silicon were Dr. Saroj Rout, Professor, Electronics Engineering, Dr. Nayan Paul, Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Engineering, and Dr. Suvendu Chandan Nayak, Senior Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Engineering.

The internal hackathon celebrated the creativity and ingenuity of students, promoting collaboration and innovative problem-solving. The selected teams will now move forward to represent Silicon at the national level, embodying the institution’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering innovation.
