Silicon University organizes an International Conference on ‘Intelligent Computing and Sustainable Innovation in Technology’ (IC-SIT 2024)

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized an international conference on ‘Intelligent Computing and Sustainable Innovation in Technology’ (IC-SIT 2024) from 21 to 23 November 2024.

The event provided an enriching platform for researchers, academicians, and industry professionals worldwide to exchange transformative ideas, present pioneering research, and deliberate on emerging trends in soft computing, intelligent systems, and sustainability. Participants engaged in intellectually stimulating sessions, fostering meaningful collaboration, and exploring innovative solutions to bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and sustainable development.

The inaugural ceremony began with a welcome address delivered by Prof. Jaideep Talukdar, our Vice-Chancellor. An address from Prof. C. R. Tripathy, the conference’s General Chair, followed this. Shri Hare Krishna Ratha, Former Director of the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, and Chair of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Bhubaneswar Subsection, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his speech, he underscored the significant contributions of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to the technological advancements in India’s defence systems. Dr. Manoranjan Behera, Dean (Research & Consultancy) addressed the audience and highlighted the importance of research and publications in academic excellence. The ceremony concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Pradyumna Kumar Tripathy, the conference convener.

The conference featured six highly insightful keynote talks delivered by globally renowned experts, each addressing significant advancements in technology and its applications. Dr. Sung-Bae Cho, Professor at Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea, presented on ‘Sustainable Machine Learning with External Memory for Incremental Tasks’, discussing innovative strategies for addressing incremental learning challenges. Dr. Xiao-Zhi Gao, Professor at the University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio, Finland, elaborated on the principles and applications of the Harmony Search optimization algorithm in his talk titled ‘Introduction to Harmony Search Method with Applications’. Dr. Saroj Kumar Meher, Associate Professor at the Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore, shared his insights on ‘Machine Learning with Domain Adaptation Approaches’, highlighting methods to enhance the adaptability of machine learning models across domains. Dr. Somanath Tripathy, Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Patna delivered an engaging talk on ‘Recent Trends on Malware Detection’, focusing on advanced techniques for ensuring digital security and combating cyber threats. Dr. Siba K. Udgata, Professor at the University of Hyderabad discussed innovative applications of Wi-Fi sensing for societal and sustainable purposes in his talk titled ‘General Purpose Wi-Fi Sensing for Various Societal and Sustainable Applications’. Finally, Dr. Swati Das, Business Manager – Learning at Infosys, spoke on ‘Leveraging AI for Personalized Learning in Education’, emphasizing the transformative potential of AI-driven tools in tailoring learning experiences to individual needs for enhanced engagement and outcomes.

IC-SIT 2024 attracted an impressive 341 research paper submissions, including 22 from international contributors, reflecting a wide spectrum of innovative ideas and solutions. Following a rigorous peer-review process, 141 high-quality papers were selected for presentation, ensuring the inclusion of groundbreaking research. Ultimately, 117 papers were registered and presented, encompassing various topics such as artificial intelligence, optimization algorithms, machine learning, and their transformative applications in addressing real-world challenges.

The conference featured a dynamic technical Poster Presentation session, offering participants a valuable platform to showcase their research while fostering meaningful discussions with peers from diverse institutions. This session promoted collaboration and skill enhancement, particularly in communication, teamwork, and critical thinking. The event was further enriched by interactive panel discussions, which explored specialized topics in depth and inspired deeper collaboration among attendees.

The three-day conference concluded with a valedictory session, where the organizers expressed gratitude to the keynote speakers, presenters, and participants for their contributions. IC-SIT 2024 marked a milestone in Silicon University’s commitment to academic excellence and global collaboration in emerging technologies. By showcasing groundbreaking research, the conference reaffirmed the university’s reputation as a hub for innovation in intelligent computing and sustainable technology while inspiring future advancements and strengthening international partnerships.
