The META Academics Cell at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized Azad Hind Events 2026 an 11 & 12 August 2026.
The primary objectives of the event were to celebrate the spirit of Independence Day through literary and intellectual expression, encourage students to critically engage with contemporary social, educational, and economic challenges in India, develop public speaking, structured writing, analytical, and communication skills, and provide young minds with a platform to express their original perspectives with clarity, confidence, and conviction.
The two-day literary initiative was organized to commemorate Independence Day by providing students with a platform for intellectual engagement, creative expression, and critical discussion on contemporary national issues. The event featured two competitions—an Essay Writing Competition and a Speech Competition—with twenty-seven participants turning up across both events. Guided by the theme ‘Ideas shape nations, voices shape the future’, the initiative encouraged students to reflect on India’s growth, heritage, work culture, education, justice, and social equity.
The Essay Writing Competition was conducted in English, Hindi, and Odia languages on the first day and was judged by Ms. Sweekruti Panda and Ms. Kumari Anamika, faculty members at SiliconTech. Participants were given one hour to write essays of 250–300 words on topics such as ‘One Nation, Many Aspirations: Can India’s Growth Fulfil Every Dream?’ and ‘The India We Inherit, The India We Build’. On the second day the Speech Competition was conducted in English. Judged by Mr. Sarthak Padhi and Ms. Priyambada Pal, faculty members at SiliconTech, the competition required participants to speak for 2–5 minutes, with a two-minute qualifying limit. The topics included ‘The Price of Progress: Rethinking India’s Work Culture’, ‘The Face of Justice: Beyond Gender, Beyond Bias’, and ‘A Nation’s Report Card: Can India Rebuild Trust in Its Education System?’
The event concluded with the evaluation and recognition of outstanding performances in both competitions. In the Essay Writing Competition, Adyasha Anuska Sahoo (2nd Year, CSE), secured the first position, while Disha Pattanayak (3rd Year, ECE), secured the second position. In the Speech Competition, Tanisha Nahak (2nd Year, CSE), secured the first position, while Sonali Pradhan (3rd Year, CSE), secured the second position. Overall, Azad Hind Events 2026 successfully encouraged students to move beyond conventional Independence Day celebrations and engage meaningfully with ideas and issues shaping India’s present and future.
