Silicon University organizes Kalpdrisya 2026, a filmmaking competition

The Social Media Cell of SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized Kalpdrisya 2026, a filmmaking competition on 21 March 2026.

The objective of Kalpdrisya 2026 was to foster creativity, teamwork, and practical filmmaking skills under real-world production conditions. Participants were challenged to demonstrate storytelling abilities, technical execution, and time management while navigating the complete filmmaking process, from concept development and scripting to cinematography, editing, and poster design. The event aimed to provide an immersive experience that simulated professional filmmaking pressures and deadlines.

This inter-college event was a 72-hour short filmmaking challenge, where participants were required to conceptualize, script, shoot, edit, and design a poster within a strict timeframe. The competition began with the reveal of three narrative themes at midnight on 17 March 2026, and participants selected one theme to develop over three days, culminating in a final screening.

Throughout the event, participants worked intensively in a continuous production phase and submitted structured project folders containing their films, raw footage, screenplays, timelines, and graphics. The final screening was followed by evaluation from a panel of renowned judges, Mr. Mayur Mahapatra (Filmmaker and Director) and Mr. Swastik Dash (Cinematographer and Director), who provided detailed feedback. Key takeaways emphasized the importance of creativity, collaboration, technical planning, and efficient time management in delivering successful projects under pressure.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from eighty students representing various institutes. The top-performing teams were Team Gawaar Production (Winner), Team Poribar Production (Runner-up), and Sloth Films (2nd Runner-up), while Team Vision Crew received the Best Still Award. Overall, Kalpdrisya 2026 provided participants with valuable hands-on exposure to real-world filmmaking challenges and served as an excellent platform to showcase their storytelling abilities and technical creativity.
