SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized ‘Silicon Cup 2024’, the 15th inter-college sports meet from 4-13 December 2024.
The primary objective of the sports meet was to provide a dynamic platform for participants to showcase their athletic talents while fostering camaraderie and lasting friendships. Through a variety of engaging athletic events, the meet emphasized the values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, playing a pivotal role in promoting a culture of fair play and contributing to the holistic development of the students.
Featuring nine exciting games, including, basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, football, table tennis, chess, badminton, and cricket, the tournament showcased the transformative power of sports in fostering unity, discipline, and a spirit of excellence. The matches were held across various venues, including the volleyball court, basketball court, football ground, and badminton court at the SunDeck, providing a dynamic and vibrant setting for the competitions.
External referees were invited to judge the different matches. All the matches were supervised and coordinated by Dr. Samaleswari Prasad Nayak, Faculty Coordinator of Silicon Sports Club.
Sri Sri University (SSU) emerged as the winner in both men’s and women’s basketball. C V Raman Global University (CGU) claimed victories in volleyball and cricket, while the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) triumphed in kabaddi. Silicon University emerged as the winner in football and secured runner-up positions in basketball, volleyball, chess, badminton (women), and cricket, demonstrating their all-round sporting abilities. Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR) won in chess, Utkal University claimed first place in men’s badminton, and Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) secured victory in women’s badminton. The intense yet friendly competition captivated the audience and showcased the diverse athletic talent from the participating colleges.
The tournament concluded on a high note, celebrating not only the champions but also the exemplary sportsmanship and teamwork demonstrated by all participants. The Silicon Cup 2024 was a resounding success, highlighting the significance of sports in fostering young talent and strengthening the sense of unity within the student community.
