Silicon University was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation in the Educational Institutions category at the Odisha State Energy Conservation Award 2025 organized by the Department of Energy, Government of Odisha.
Silicon has made significant strides in promoting energy conservation and enhancing energy efficiency on its campus. The University’s initiatives have been recognized and appreciated by several key government agencies, including the Department of Energy, Government of Odisha, the Office of Engineer-in-Chief (Electricity)-cum-Principal Chief Electrical Inspector, Odisha and the State Designated Agency (SDA) of Odisha. These efforts highlight the University’s commitment to sustainable energy practices and its role in driving positive changes.
During the academic year 2024-25, the University undertook several notable energy-saving projects. These included replacing traditional fluorescent lamps with energy-efficient LED lighting, installing BLDC fans, and upgrading air conditioners to 5-star-rated models. Additionally, two rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) plants were commissioned on the campus and hostel buildings, further contributing to the goal of reducing energy consumption and increasing renewable energy integration.
As a result of these initiatives, Silicon University successfully achieved an energy saving of 0.21 lakh kWh during the 2024–25 period. This achievement not only highlights the effectiveness of their energy-saving measures but also demonstrates the University’s active contribution to state and national sustainability goals. This proactive approach toward energy conservation is an exemplary model for other educational institutions to follow.
In recognition of these outstanding efforts, Silicon University was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation at the Odisha State Energy Conservation Award 2025. Dr. Nivedita Pati and Dr. Priyanka Kar, from the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), received the award on behalf of the University. This prestigious accolade further emphasizes the Silicon’s leadership in sustainable practices and energy-efficient management, cementing its role as a key player in the region’s energy conservation initiatives.
