Silicon University students win first prize at the One Earth International Hackathon 2025

The One Earth International Hackathon 2025 was hosted by Cardiff Metropolitan University, Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of South Florida, and the University of Piraeus, bringing together young innovators from around the world on 25 and 26 October, 2025.

The main objective of the event was to encourage participants to build technology for a sustainable tomorrow. With the urgency of climate action growing globally, the hackathon aimed to provide a platform for participants to collaborate on developing tech-based solutions for pressing environmental challenges.

Team Farm OS from SiliconTech secured the first prize in the Hackathon for their innovative project ‘AI-Powered Soil Carbon Tracking for Farms’. The IoT and AI-driven platform enables farmers to monitor soil carbon levels in real time and supports climate-friendly agricultural practices.

The team received a cash award of 1000 Euros for their achievement. Led by Aayushi Samantsinghar (7th Semester, EIE), the team developed a comprehensive solution that integrates advanced technologies to help farmers generate automated carbon credits. Each member contributed to specialized components of the system- Debasis Maharana (7th Semester, EIE) worked on hardware design and IoT communication, Santosh Kumar Senapati (5th Semester, EIE) handled machine learning and data modeling, Bibhu Parasd Lenka (5th Semester, EIE) developed the cloud dashboard and backend architecture, and Abhijit Mohanty (5th Semester, EIE) implemented blockchain integration and data security.

This solution uses low-cost IoT soil sensors to collect field data, AI models to estimate carbon sequestration, and blockchain for transparent verification of carbon credits. By reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 25 percent while improving soil health and providing economic benefits to farmers, the project demonstrated the transformative potential of technology in regenerative agriculture.

By fostering cross-country collaboration, the One Earth International Hackathon 2025 brought together developers, designers, and innovators to create solutions for critical global environmental and social issues. The event emphasized the role of emerging technologies—like AI, IoT, and blockchain—in addressing problems such as carbon emissions, soil degradation, and the need for renewable energy.
