Silicon University students participated in the IITBBS Model United Nations (MUN) held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar from 8 to 10 March 2024.
Model United Nations is a popular extra-curricular activity in which students roleplay delegates to the United Nations, simulate UN committees, and learn about diplomacy, international relations, current world issues, and the UN itself.
The IITBBS MUN provided a platform where the participants could immerse themselves in the intricacies of diplomacy, debate, and discussions to broaden their understanding of the complexities of global situations and develop negotiation and problem-solving skills.
There were four offline councils in the IITBBS MUN, namely, the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the International Press, and the All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM). Additionally, there were two online councils- the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) and the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW).
Our students actively participated in the MUN to discuss significant global issues. They performed very well to receive important positions and mentions in the MUN.
A delegation of fourteen students represented Silicon University in the IITBBS MUN. Our student, Amlan Tripathy (CEN, 2027) received a special mention for his commendable contribution to the AIPPM and Sneha Sruti Sahu (CSE, 2025) received a special mention for her outstanding performance in the International Press.
