Silicon University received the Odisha State Energy Conservation Award (OSECA) 2024 in the ‘Educational Institutes’ category on 15 December 2024. Presented by the Department of Energy, Government of Odisha, this prestigious recognition celebrates the university’s outstanding contributions to sustainability and energy efficiency. It underscores Silicon’s commitment to adopting environmentally responsible practices, setting a leading example for other educational institutions to follow.
A key highlight of the university’s sustainability efforts is its leadership in energy efficiency, particularly through the expansion of its rooftop photovoltaic (PV) solar plant. By significantly increasing the capacity of this solar installation, Silicon has made renewable energy a core component of its operations. Harnessing solar power has not only reduced reliance on non-renewable energy sources but has also contributed to global sustainability goals by minimizing carbon emissions.
Beyond solar energy, the university has implemented several innovative measures to conserve resources and minimize its environmental footprint. One such initiative is the reuse of wastewater for non-potable purposes like irrigation and cooling systems. This sustainable practice reduces the demand for freshwater, promoting water conservation.
