Silicon Institute of Technology, Sambalpur (Silicon West), celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour on 15 August 2025.
The celebration aimed to honour our brave freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the nation’s freedom. It also sought to inspire students to contribute to the country’s progress through dedication and excellence in their professional pursuits.
The event began with Prof. Mihir Hota, Dean (Academics), hoisting the national flag, followed by the rendition of the national anthem and a parade by the students. In his address, Prof. Hota remembered the sacrifices of the valiant freedom fighters and highlighted the significance of building a self-reliant India. He urged students to integrate nation-building into their aspirations and strive for excellence in all their endeavours.
The formal ceremony was followed by a cultural program featuring patriotic songs, energetic dance performances, a human pyramid display, and a thought-provoking skit depicting the sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces in safeguarding national unity. Additionally, students delivered speeches in English, Hindi, and Odia, reflecting on the meaning and importance of Independence Day.
The event was seamlessly coordinated by the Students’ Council, with all performances presented by Shades of Silicon, the art and cultural club of the institute. The celebration truly embodied unity, pride, and a collective commitment to the ideals of the nation.
