Silicon Institute of Technology, Sambalpur (Silicon West) conducted its 15th orientation-cum-induction program for the newly admitted fresher and lateral students from 1 – 16 September 2023.
The objective of this program was to familiarize students with academic requirements, and institutional policies. It also aimed to instill ethical values and a sense of belonging within the college community.
The institute also floated a bridge course for the newly admitted students from 4 to 9 September 2023. The bridge course included introductory classes on the first year B.Tech. subjects, providing students with an overview of the curriculum and subject content.
The Induction Program, held from 11 to 16 September 2023, featured an array of distinguished speakers. Prof. Banshidhar Majhi, the Honourable Vice Chancellor of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla emphasized the significance of discipline and proactive learning in personal growth. Dr. Sanjib Kumar Nayak, Assistant Professor Department of Computer Application, VSSUT, Burla, delved into the latest trends in computer science, particularly Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Automation. Prof. Mihir Hota, Dean Academics, Silicon West led a session on Physics. Additionally, Mr. Priya Ranjan Sahu, a Senior Journalist in Sambalpur, and Mr. Binayak Mishra, an IPRO (Information & Public Relations Officer) in Odisha Information Service, Government of Odisha, shared their insights on the ‘Role of Media in Nation Building,’ discussing the evolving role of media and its influence on shaping public perspectives.
Prof. Pradeep Kumar Mishra, Former Director, Silicon West, and Prof. Prakash C. Swain, Professor of Civil Engineering and Dean Infrastructure, VSSUT, Burla joined the induction program on 15 September 2023, also celebrated as “Engineer’s Day”. On this special occasion, Prof. Mishra highlighted the significant contributions of Sir M. Visvesvaraya to India’s infrastructural development. Prof. Swain deliberated on the need for an individual’s physical, mental, and spiritual well-being in achieving life goals. Dr. Satyabrata Das, Associate Professor, Department of Information Technology and Head, Department of Computer Application, VSSUT, Burla discussed the wide array of career opportunities in research and higher studies, underscoring the benefits of collaboration with VSSUT for students.
On the final day of the induction program, Mr. Vikash Ranjan, a member of the Brahmakumaris and a faculty member at the Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation in New Delhi, delivered an enlightening talk on ‘Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Health.’ He also demonstrated meditation techniques. Additionally, Dr. Simanchal Bag, Assistant Professor of Economics at Silicon West, provided valuable insights on Financial Awareness to the students.
A total of 250 newly admitted students and parents attended the induction program.
