The Industry Interface Cell (II Cell) at Silicon Institute of Technology, Sambalpur (Silicon West) organized an expert talk by our alumnus Mihir Jha on 17 August 2024.
The objective of the event was to inspire students and help them understand and navigate complex career challenges.
Mihir embarked on the field of Ed-tech after earning his B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from Silicon West in 2015. He partnered with an educational organization and actively trained students preparing for higher studies. This passion for education and analytics later led him to pursue a Master’s in Business Analytics from the Schulich School of Business at York University, Canada.
He currently serves as a specialist in supplier relationship management at Toronto Pearson Airport Authority, where he conducts pricing analyses to reduce costs and support multi-million-dollar infrastructure projects. In his previous roles, he significantly enhanced operational efficiency by implementing machine learning-based predictive models, resulting in substantial cost savings. His expertise also extends to developing demand forecasting models and designing business intelligence dashboards to inform strategic decisions at the executive level. Beyond his professional work, Mihir remains deeply committed to education. He hosts ‘The NextGrad Show’ on his YouTube channel, where he mentors students and young professionals, sharing insights and guidance on academic and career development.
In the session, he reflected on his professional journey and shared key insights on career development. He highlighted the importance of building a strong foundation, honing technical skills, and continuously grooming soft skills to navigate today’s competitive landscape. He also emphasized the value of cultivating a professional network to gain broader exposure to the business world and open doors to new opportunities.
The insightful session was enthusiastically attended by students, staff, and faculty members, who actively participated in discussions and gained valuable industry insights, making the event a resounding success.
