Silicon Institute of Technology, Sambalpur (Silicon West) successfully organized an Internal Hackathon for the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2026 on 12 September 2026.
The event aimed to provide students with a platform to showcase their innovative ideas, technical competencies, problem-solving abilities, and collaborative skills while addressing real-world challenges.
The event commenced with an inaugural session with Dr. Bighnaraj Naik, Assistant Professor at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla gracing as the chief guest and external jury member. Silicon West members including Dr. Ashutosh Rath, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering and Dean Academics, and Dr. Umashankar Ghugar, Head of the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department emphasized the purpose and learning potential of the internal hackathon. Ms. Snehanjali Pradhan, Assistant Professor in the CSE department and the coordinator of SIH 2026, highlighted the objectives of SIH and reflected on students’ achievements in the previous years.
The hackathon featured ten teams presenting problem statements, proposed solutions, and working prototypes before a jury comprising experts from VSSUT, Burla and Silicon West. The teams were evaluated on innovation, technical implementation, feasibility, and overall potential.
Following the evaluation, six teams were shortlisted for the national-level SIH 2026 and received feedback to strengthen their proposals and prototypes.
