Silicon West organizes Model United Nations 2024

The Literary Club of Silicon Institute of Technology, Sambalpur (Silicon West) organized a Model United Nations (MUN) on 2 March 2024.

Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations where the students act as delegates of different nations and discuss topics having geopolitical relevance like world peace, international trade, health, climate change, food security, education, scientific advancements in nuclear energy, IT and space industry, and ways to combat the rising extremism in the world.

Silicon West’s MUN 2024 was inaugurated by Prof. Mihir Hota, Dean Academics. He delivered the welcome address and encouraged the participants to perform their best. Mr. Priya Ranjan Sahu, a senior journalist from Sambalpur was the Chief Guest of the event. Mr. Sahu emphasized the significance of organizing such events and shared words of wisdom with the participants.

The event was conducted in three rounds namely, Briefing the House, Open House, and Jury’s Shoot. The participants represented twenty five countries to discuss the pressing issues of the present time.

Pranjal Parmar (CSE, 2024) and Somdev Behera (CSE, 2025) conducted the affairs of the house in the capacity of Secretary General and Chairperson of MUN 2024 respectively. The in-house jury members included Ms. Sagarika Pradhan, Head of the Department, Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Sonalika Mishra, Assistant Professor, Electronics Engineering, Mr. Ashish Singh Saluja, Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Engineering and Dr. Simanchal Bag, Assistant Professor, Economics. Mr. Priya Ranjan Sahu, our Chief Guest, was the external judge of the event.

Gourav Kumar (CSE, 2025) received the Best Delegate award of MUN 2024. All the participants were presented with certificates of participation to acknowledge their contribution.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Amlan Abhijeet Mishra, a student member of the Literary Club.
