Silicon West organizes Model United Nations 2025

The Literary Club of Silicon Institute of Technology, Sambalpur (Silicon West) organized a Model United Nations (MUN) on 8 March 2025.

Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations where the students act as delegates of different nations and discuss topics having geopolitical relevance like international trade, health, climate change, food security, education, scientific advancements in nuclear energy, IT, and space industry, as well as various ways to solve conflicts around the globe to promote world peace.

Silicon West’s MUN 2025 was inaugurated by Prof. Mihir Hota, Dean Academics. He delivered the welcome address and encouraged the participants to perform their best. Mr. Binayaka Mishra (Odisha Information Service), Public Relations Officer, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department and Rural Development Department, Government of Odisha was the Chief Guest of the occasion. He emphasized the need to promote critical thinking in students through discussions on various topics of national and international importance.

Model United Nations 2025 unfolded in three rounds, viz. Briefing the House, Open House, and Jury’s Shoot. The participants represented twenty-five countries to discuss the pressing issues of the present time.

Somdev Behera (CSE, 2025) and Amlan Abhijit Mishra (CSE, 2026) conducted the affairs of the house in their capacity as Secretary General and Honourable Chair of MUN 2025 respectively. The in-house jury members included Dr. Sonakila Mishra, Assistant Professor, Electrical Engineering, and Dr. Simanchal Bag, Assistant Professor, Economics. Mr. Binayaka Mishra, our Chief Guest, was the external judge of the event.

Sourav (CSE, 2027) received the Best Delegate award of MUN 2025. To acknowledge their contribution, all the participants were presented with certificates of participation.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Tyagraj Thakur, Senior Assistant Professor of English and Faculty-In-Charge, Literary Club.
