The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) student chapter at SiliconTech organized an expert talk on ‘Introvert to IEEE Influencer’ on 15 April 2023. The talk was delivered by Mr. Ramneek Kalra, Editor of IEEE India Council Newsletter, and IEEE Impact Creator & Brand Ambassador.
The objective of this talk was to discuss the vision, mission, and scope of IEEE, create awareness about the research and publication platform under IEEE and inform about the involvement of students & professional members in the IEEE chapters.
The talk began with the welcome address delivered by our Director, Dr. Saroj Kanta Misra. The speaker of the day, Mr. Kalra began his talk by emphasizing the mission of IEEE which is to advance technology for the benefit of humanity. He then outlined the scope and objectives of IEEE which include educational and technical advancement of electrical and electronics engineering, telecommunications, computer engineering, and other similar disciplines. He further added that IEEE is the world’s largest association of technical professionals with more than 423,000 members in over 160 countries around the world.
IEEE has a dedicated research and publication platform. Mr. Kalra informed the audience about the IEEE Electronic Library (IEL) which is available on the IEEE Xplore platform for subscription-based access and individual publication purchases. In addition to journals and conference proceedings, IEEE also publishes tutorials and standards that are formed by its standardization committees. He also highlighted student educational activities like IEEE eLearning Library, the Education Partners Program, Standards in Education, and Continuing Education Units (CEUs). He focused on the technical societies based on different technical areas like Aerospace and Electronic Systems, Antennas & Propagation, Broadcast Technology, Circuits and Systems, etc.
Before concluding the session, Mr. Kalra explained the benefits available for the students and professional members of IEEE with respect to projects, funding, and publications. A total of forty eight students and faculty members attended the event.
