The Industry Interface Cell and Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at SiliconTech jointly organized an industry talk on ‘Cyber Security Awareness’ by Mr. Niranjan Kumar Parhi (Ex-Indian Air Force Commodore) on 27 October 2022.
The objective of this talk was to create awareness about the rising concerns in the field of cyber security and the ample scope of this domain.
Mr. Parhi worked as a Chief Technical Officer with the Government of India. His job role included working on Data Centre Infrastructure, Network Operation Centre, Voice Over IP network and other associated technologies. He was also a cyber security expert at Defence Cyber Agency, the only Tri-Services Cyber Agency in India. Prior to this, he was the Principal Director, IT, Indian Air Force. Being a skilled IT professional with expertise in managing and directing operations in IT, communication, networking and cyber security, he has garnered an enriching experience during his 34 years career in the Indian Air Force. He also has several international and national cyber security certifications to his credit.
In his talk, Mr. Parhi discussed the global statistics related to cybercrimes and the rising concern to deal with them urgently. He stressed on the massive gap in terms of available human resources in the field of cyber security. Also, he shed light on the different areas of cyber security and the possibility of fraud in these areas. Before concluding, he shared his valuable insights on the various job profiles and career opportunities available for the cybersecurity professionals. He also encouraged the young Siliconites to explore this interesting field of study.
Around 70 students from 2023 and 2024 graduating batches attended the interactive session and got the opportunity to listen to the first-hand experiences of the speaker. The session was highly appreciated by the audience.
