SiliconTech’s Student Innovation & Promotion Cell (SIPC) organized an internal hackathon from 22 to 23 September 2023 to select teams for the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2023.
Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem-solving. Students engage in problem-solving through coding, application development, and build hardware prototype models as they tackle real-world challenges. SIH consists of two rounds. The first round was conducted at the Institute level, and the final round will be conducted soon at the National level.
The internal hackathon was conducted in two categories- software and hardware. A total of thirty teams comprising of six members each participated in both categories. Out of the thirty participating teams, twenty two teams were selected in the software category and two teams were selected in the hardware category to participate in the final round of SIH 2023.
A panel of eight members carefully assessed and scrutinized the ideas for selection in both categories. The external members in the panel included Dr. Rabindra Kumar Barik, Associate Professor, School of Computer Applications, KIIT University, Mr. Malay Kumar Padhi, Technology Architect, Infosys, Mr. Umasankar Das, Manager, Cognizant Technologies and Mr. Nitish Kumar, Senior Software Engineer, Mindfire Solutions. The internal jury members were Mr. Swagat Jena, Assistant Professor, CSE, Dr. Suvendu Chandan Nayak, Senior Assistant Professor, CSE, Mr. Sushant Pattnaik, Assistant Professor, ECE, and Mr. T Dinesh Varma, Assistant Professor, EEE.
Students presented innovative ideas addressing a wide range of challenges submitted by various ministries including Environment, Law and Justice, Jal Shakti, and Power across different themes such as clean and green technology, smart automation, and healthtech. The jury members were thoroughly impressed with the teams. The atmosphere was filled with energy and enthusiasm throughout the event.
