The Department of Energy, Government of Odisha recognized Silicon Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (SiliconTech) for its contribution towards energy efficiency and energy conservation on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day on 14 December 2022.
SiliconTech received the Odisha State Energy Conservation Award (OSECA) 2022 for its “meritorious performance” under the category of ‘Educational Institutes’ in a state level function in Convention Centre at Lok Seva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar. OSECA was organized by the Department of Energy, Office of Engineer-in-Chief (Electricity)-cum-PCEI (Principal Chief Electrical Inspector) and State Designated Agency (SDA), Government of Odisha.
OSECA was launched in 2015 to recognize selected entities that have made systematic and continued attempts for efficient utilization and conservation of energy. This scheme envisions a multiplier effect that will help other enterprises and stakeholders working in the area of energy conservation in the state to emulate the success stories of these award-winning units.
SiliconTech has initiated various programs & activities through its in-house team for energy efficiency and resource conservation. The activities include enhancing its rooftop PV solar plant capacity, re-use of wastewater, use of energy efficient electrical appliances and gadgets and flattening of load curve through demand side management. 25% of the institute’s energy requirement is met from rooftop solar PV plants. Over the last 5 years its connected load has doubled but the energy import is getting reduced day by day.
